The Three Cultures in the World Values Survey - This chapter makes extensive use of data produced by the World Values Survey, the largest body of survey research available on the topic of culture and values, gathered through public opinion polling in more than 100 countries. It analyzes the empirical data produced by the World Values Survey, in order to give a clearer picture of the differences between the three major cultures. Values analyzed include feeling of happiness, respect for parents, gender equality, respect for authority, religious belief, national pride, trust in others, life satisfaction, free choice, income equality, competition, and tolerance of homosexuality. The chapter also discusses how countries, regions, and even individuals are not monolithic, but often display a mix of seemingly contradictory values.
